A Follow Up to my Vegetarian Journey

I became vegetarian at the start of 2020 and am still making my way through this journey.  When I first started talking about this back in January, I had a few questions asked of me of my why, why I decided to this.  My answer is still the same, I'm an animal lover.

This choice was made pre-pandemic, and although it could have made things easier in our household, had I given in and begun to eat meat again, I really felt that I couldn't waiver.  I did make a few small adjustments that felt organic to me, like I eat fish from time to time, and a full admittance that I had poutine, gravy and all, and didn't feel guilty for it.  This is just that, a journey, an act of going from one place to another. There is an in between where you explore and discover.  A space where you figure out what's right for you. I'm still on this journey, and not sure how much longer till I'm at the end, but my relationship with food is ever changing as I discover different things to try as an alternative to meat.

My oldest sister is vegetarian, and has been for a very long time.  And I ask her for advice now and again, quick dinner recipes, if she's tried a certain brand of veggie burgers, or if she ever misses certain dishes.  And she's been such a wealth of knowledge.  Thanks big sista!

I also started to follow different plant based food accounts on instagram for inspiration and have learned of some cool products and brands.  If you know me, you'd know that my cooking skills have really only come to be better in the last 5 years or so, and I've come to really enjoy experimenting and trying new dishes out.  Living and cooking during a pandemic has challenged us all, and hopefully a few new cooking skills have come out of it.  Like baking bread for one.  Check a few posts back and you'll find out about my first experience making bread.  I actually made a loaf this morning. Our home smells so beautiful right now.

Anyways, to wrap this up, I'll say it again, I'm just an animal lover that's trying to help even out the balance.
